A strong text that resonates with people’s spiritual needs married to a fine tune are the necessary ingredients for a hymn that works, and we believe the pieces in New Hymns and Spiritual Songs more than meet that criteria. Nick Fawcett and Martin Leckebusch, both well-loved and established writers, have provided texts which have been set to music by Kevin Mayhew, a composer with a unique understanding of hymnody. In addition to the hymns there are also settings of Glory to God and Holy, holy, holy, Lord. The music is immensely tuneful and may be played on either the organ or keyboard, or by a music group and the accompanying CD includes each hymn in both styles.
