It is necessary to emphasize the Christian s unavoidable responsibility to reflect and act in the face of the great challenges of our time, especially the crises associated with social and human development. The church must be guided to act beyond its internal circle in constant dialogue with civil society, academia, politics, the media, and other relevant institutions. This work is primarily a reflection centered on economics, a field that requires continual ethical review in order to guide it properly toward human development. In relation to the current global debate and agenda, the book discusses the Post-2015 Development Agenda (the Sustainable Development Goals leading toward 2030), focusing on major problems and possible solutions: persistent poverty and inequality, environmental crisis, and educational problems and their consequences. The book also discusses proposals related to economic and social development, including renewal of economic theory and education, reform of values and business practice, renewal of public culture and administration, and cooperation in social assistance.
