Practice Makes Polished Level 4 is a supplemental practice workbook (with answer keys), not a complete language arts curriculum. This flexible resource fills several needs:

  • Use it alongside Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 4 or any other language arts program to ensure mastery and retention.
  • Use it solo as remediation, enrichment, or summer learning.

The introductory material outlines two 36-week scheduling suggestions plus alternate 8- and 12-week summer schedules.

A Fun Owl Theme Kids Will Love

Short reading passages (with comprehension questions) center on owls — 16 unique owl species such as barn owls, screech owls, and red owls; and owl habitats, behaviors, and characteristics. To further the owl theme, use the extension activities at the back of the book which include drawing tutorials as well as papercrafts.

  • Word Search: Students find and circle specific words within a grid or create their own word search puzzles.
  • Hidden Picture: Students color sections based on different word types or parts of speech.
  • Match-up: Students draw lines to connect words with their meanings or correct usage.
  • Fill In It: Activities where students complete sentences with appropriate words, such as who's or whose.
  • Drawing Activities: Included within reading comprehension sections, asking students to draw scenes, animals, or characters from the stories.
  • Owl Crafts: Optional activities such as drawing owls, making an owl journal, and creating paper owls.
