Journey Through a Thousand Years of Faith, Conflict, and Courage

What happened to the church between the fall of Rome and the dawn of the Reformation? In What Was the Medieval Church?, award-winning author Danika Cooley takes young readers on an exciting journey through one of the most fascinating periods in Christian history.

From barbarian invasions and Viking raids to missionaries, monks, emperors, and popes, the Middle Ages were a time of dramatic change. Yet amid political struggles, theological debates, and growing corruption, faithful Christians continued to proclaim the good news of Jesus and defend biblical truth.Ā

Written in an engaging narrative style for middle-grade readers, this richly illustrated introduction to church history helps children understand how Christianity spread across Europe, Asia, and beyond while exploring the events that shaped the church we know today.

Readers will discover:

  • How the church survived invasions, wars, and political upheavalĀ
  • The rise of monasteries, missionaries, and influential church leadersĀ
  • Why the church split into major branchesĀ
  • How false teachings emerged and faithful believers respondedĀ
  • The stories of ordinary Christians who remained devoted to ChristĀ
  • Key people, places, and events from the Middle AgesĀ

Perfect for curious young historians, homeschool families, and Christian educators, What Was the Medieval Church? brings a thousand years of church history to life while pointing readers to the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

The Who, What, Why series explores the lives, concepts, and movements that have shaped the lives of God’s people throughout history. Featuring engaging narrative, beautiful illustrations and a timeline of key dates, this series introduces young people to big topics through simple questions.
