It could be said that the majority of evangelicals in Latin America are not missionally oriented toward social transformation because the implications of the various vocations and related disciplines have not been fully understood in connection with Kingdom values and expressed through daily participation in society. Likewise, the church is not equipped to reflect on human responsibility in light of contemporary demands because it lacks the criteria needed to evaluate attitudes, behaviors, and social realities, which also requires the contribution of multiple academic disciplines. Thus, despite numerical growth, the limited contribution of evangelicals toward confronting and solving social problems is largely due to misunderstanding these relationships. What should Christians contribute in academic and professional settings connected to the various disciplines? What should their contribution be in shaping thought and creating pathways toward solving the severe problems faced by our societies? From September 18 20, 2014, the fifth Latin American consultation sponsored by the Association for the Promotion of Christian Higher Education (AIPESC) was held in San Jos , Costa Rica, under the theme Disciplinary approaches in response to the current Latin American reality. This volume, produced from that consultation, seeks to express a movement toward correcting these deficiencies, building bridges between divided or malfunctioning areas, and proposing an ongoing continental effort rooted in Christian Higher Education.
